Achieving the Perfect Blowout at Home

We all know that feeling after leaving the salon with a great blowout – you feel as if you can take on the world. We will do anything to make that blowout last as long as possible; knowing once we wash our hair, we won’t be able to recreate that look on our own.

Think of what we could accomplish as women if we knew how to give ourselves an amazing blowout on a regular basis!?

Step 1 – Products Make a Difference: Shampoo & Conditioner

It all starts in the shower with using the correct shampoo and conditioner that your hair needs. This could be repair shampoo if you can never be blonde enough (like me), or a hydrating shampoo because in Colorado we all need as much moisture as we can get. This will lay the foundation for the rest of your style and ensure you’re taking care of your hair from the start.

Shampoo & conditioner recommendations: Oribe Shampoo for Beautiful Color, Oribe Gold Lust Repair & Restore, Natulique Pure Silver

Step 2 – Selecting the Right Hair Styling Products

The next step is making sure you use the right styling products to help you achieve your desired style. We always recommend using a thermal protectant before putting any heat on your hair because, in the end, healthy hair will always be pretty hair.  If you’re wanting volume, it’s important to add a styling product to your hair wet, such as a mousse or tonic. This will give you the maximum amount of volume rather than waiting until your hair is dry to start adding volumizing products. For curly hair, you will want to be sure you’re using something smoothing before you blow dry or diffuse your hair. Each hair type is so different so it’s important we’re using the right styling products to meet our individual needs.

Styling product recommendations: Natulique Ultra Shine Finishing Spray, Natulique Heat & Sun Protection, Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream

Step 3  – Perfecting the Technique

The final step is technique… which doesn’t always have to mean spending a lot of time styling your hair. I always recommend rough drying your hair to 50-80% after you put your styling products in. Then you can use your round or flat brush to finish off your style. By getting your hair mostly dry before starting to style, you will save so much time and will prevent your arms from getting so tired while blow drying!

As women we play so many roles (mom, wife, boss, etc) and we often spend so much time taking care of the people around us that we have very little time to spend on ourselves. Our goal is to simplify things for you as you’re styling your hair, so you can have the confidence of a great blowout as you take on your daily superwoman duties!

Feel free to pop into our Fort Collins salon and ask any of our stylists to help you discover the right products and styling techniques to achieve the perfect blowout a home!
