Your FAQs about IPL Treatments
What are IPL skin treatments?
IPL treatments, otherwise known as Intense Pulsed Light Treatments or photo rejuvenation, utilize concentrated light wavelengths to reduce skin discoloration, treat sun damage and rosacea, clear acne, and minimize fine lines and age spots. Essentially, the holy grail of skin care!
The device we use at Facetté, the Candela Nordlys™ IPL device, is safe to use anywhere on the body. However, we most commonly treat the face, neck, chest, arms, and legs.
How does it work?
Our medical professionals use the Candela Nordlys™ IPL device to focus intense light wavelengths (between 530-750nm) on the targeted areas of skin. The melanin and hemoglobin in your skin absorb these wavelengths, which causes the brown and red discoloration in the skin to darken. After about a week, these darkened spots flake off entirely.
All in all, the appointment is rather quick, lasting only 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the treatment area. Other than a faint sunburnt feeling and temporarily pink and blotchy skin for the first 24-48 hours, you’ll experience essentially no downtime!
After about a week, your skin will look refreshed, even-toned, and be glowing!
When will I start seeing results?
The most amazing part of our IPL skin treatments is the fast-acting results. Typically, you’ll see 40% of your sun damage and 30% of your red tones lifted after just one session.
That being said, two to three treatments will be required to lift 100% of your discoloration. Typically, you’ll need to schedule regular IPL maintenance appointments once or twice a year after that.
