Fixing a Gummy Smile with Facetté

after-treatment

What is a gummy smile?

A “gummy smile” is when the upper gums are prominent when smiling. What causes a gummy smile? According to dentists around the country, genetics plays a role in how much gum tissue growth occurs. Overgrowth could give teeth the appearance of being shorter which ultimately shows more gums when smiling.

How can Facetté Medical Spa help me with my gummy smile?

Botox (botulinumtoxin A) is a protein that, when injected into the muscle, inhibits the neuron synapses that release acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is what causes your muscles to contract. If injected correctly into the orbicularis oris (the muscle that surrounds the lip and creates movement) it can relax those levator muscles around the top of the lip so that it creates a more natural and less gummy smile. Filler (hyaluronic acids) is also another option and may also be used in conjunction with Botox to help decrease the visibility of gums. Upon consultation with your injector, they can help you decide which option (or both) will be right for you. Facial symmetry and the amount of gums showing is different for everyone.
